BOTOX FOR LINES AND WRINKLES

Testimonial

"The level of care and personal touch at Contoure was the most important. I’m extremely pleased and gratified by Contoure… going there is totally inspiring." B.Caldwell

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a simple, nonsurgical, treatment that can smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people from 18 to 65 years of age. One 10-minute treatment—a few tiny injections—and within days there's a noticeable improvement in moderate to severe frown lines.

Designed to relax deep lines and wrinkles that develop around the eyes and on the forehead, Botox injections can provide safe, instant wrinkle relief without incurring any downtime so you can immediately resume your daily activities.

Unfortunately, all BOTOX is not created equal and over. Diluted Botox is an epidemic in South Florida. Click here to find out why

How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?
Those moderate to severe frown lines between your brows form over time as the result of muscle activity. BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected directly into the muscles between your brows. It works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles; this reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those persistent lines to form.
When will I see results from a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment?
Within days, you may see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows. Lines continue to improve for up to a month, and results can last for up to 4 months. In clinical trials, nearly 90% of men and women rated the improvement in their appearance as moderate to better 1 month after treatment. Results may vary.
How long does BOTOX® Cosmetic last?
Results from treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic can last for up to 4 months. If you discontinue treatment, the frown lines between your brows gradually will look like they did before treatment.
Is treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic painful?
Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Prior to injecting, your physician may chooseto numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes. Many people are in and out of the physician's office without downtime following BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment.
Who should not use BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic should not be used in the presence of infection at the proposed injection site(s) and in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation. Patients with neuromuscular disorders such as ALS, myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.
Will I experience any side effects?
The most common side effects following injection include temporary eyelid droop andnausea. Localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising may be associated with the injection. Patients with certain neuromuscular disorders such as ALS, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.
Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?
Although the results are visible, a treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic will not radicallychange your facial appearance or make you look as if you "had work done." The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.
What will happen to the frown linesif I choose not to continue treatments?
If you do not continue treatments, the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows will gradually look like they did before treatment.

Not All Botox is Created Equal

Botox, officially known as BOTOX® Cosmetic.

Here is some information that we New Radiance MedSpa believe you can use to help guide yourself through the Botox confusion that exist today in the market.
Unfortunately, Botox at one practice may not be exactly what you get at another……. Not all Botox is Created Equal!

Clostridium Botulinum toxin type A is supplied in a manufacturers' vial containing 100 units of vacuum-dried neurotoxin powder complex.  A practitioner can not inject a powdered substance through a syringe so in order to be able to inject these active units of Botox, saline must be added to get BOTOX in “liquid form.” This process enables the Botox to be extracted from the vial into the syringe and then injected.

There are 100 units of Botox in every vial. As you can see in Table A (see below), the more saline (in mL) that is added to the Botox vile, the less active units that will be present in each 1/10 mL extracted into the syringe. Some may refer to this is as the dilution process, but it is actually called “reconstitution”. So now while each practice received the same product from the manufacturer, when they reconstitute it to make it possible to inject, they can add saline at the recommended standard or they can add more saline than recommended.   Unfortunately, over diluted BOTOX is an epidemic in South Florida.

With this in mind, you should be cautious and only deal with a facility that you trust.

Everyone pays the same price to get the product from the vendor (Allergan).   So how can prices vary so much?   That’s where the “reconstitution” question becomes very important.  Below, Diagram A illustrates the recommended starting doses of the frequently injected areas.

You may think you are getting a “good dose” of Botox because the practitioner is injecting a large amount, but don’t confuse the units of saline with the units of actual Botox.  In other words you may get a large syringe and only have received half or less of the amount of Botox units you need.   Most Cosmetic Centers that inject properly charge from $13.00 to $17.00 per unit of Botox or $250-300 per area treated.

We constantly hear from new patients that Botox treatments from other centers did not seem to work well and they believe the product does not work.  Then after receiving Botox at New Radiance they are amazed at the difference proper dilution and technique make.

Diagram A: Recommended units per area:

Table B: Recommendations for Reconstitution and Handling*

Diluent (saline) added to Botox vial
(0.9% sodium chloride injection)

Resulting dose/
Units per 0.1 (1/10) mL

1.0 mL

10.0 U

2.0 mL

5.0 U

2.5 mL

4.0 U*

4.0 mL

2.5 U

8.0 mL

1.25 U

So if a center dilutes their Botox with 8.0mL of saline you would only receive 1.25 units of Botox per 0.1 mL injected vs. the proper dose of 4.0 units per 0.1 mL injected.   In other words you're receiving mostly saline.   Now you know why some centers price their Botox so low and why all Botox injections are not created equal...
